UPDF soldier strangled to death in Gulu, 2 soldiers held

Officers at the Central Police Station in Gulu are investigating circumstances under which a UPDF soldier, Rafael Odokonyero, was strangled to death Whisper Eye Reports

Aswa Region Police spokesperson Jimmy Okema said the police received a phone call from the area LCII chairman Denis Komakech yesterday morning, alerting them that there was a motionless body lying in his area in Kanyogoga A in Bardege Division.

According to Okema, Odokonyero was strangled on the night of February 12, 2019, with preliminary investigations indicating that he was involved in a brawl over a woman only identified as Florence Nalubega.

In a related development, the UPDF is holding two of its soldiers, Pte Moses Okello and Pte Fred Luwum, in relation to Odokonyero’s death.

Okello and Luwum are being detained at the 4th Division army barracks, while Nalubega is being held at the CPS in Guu.

“Preliminary information reveals that there was a fight because of Nalubega. That is why we are holding her for interviewing and statement recording,” Okema said.

At the time of his death, Odokonyero was attached to the 76th Battalion in Bondo, Arua.
