Arua tragedy MP’s Bob Wine ,Francis Zaake, Gerald Karuhanga arrested

Police have cleared the air on the death of  Yasin Kawuma, the driver for Kyadondo East Member of Parliament, Robert Kyagulanyi ,also known as Bobi Wine who was shot dead in Arua on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, a scuffle ensued between Kassiano Wadri supporters and those belonging to NRM’s Nusura Tiperu after the last rally in Arua.

In a statement released on Monday night, police spokesperson Emilian Kayima said there was a scuffle as Wadri’s supporters attacked the presidential motorcade as it left Arua Boma grounds where President Museveni had addressed Tiperu’s last rally.

“One of the president’s cars was attacked and smashed by the hooligans that were donning colors of one of the contestants in the election, Kassiano Wadri,”Kayima said.

According to the police mouthpiece, as the scuffle ensued, ‘security force’ intervened in a bid to calm the situation but noted that it only got worse

Wadri’s supporters continued throwing stones at the president’s convoy.

“In the scuffle, one person was fatally injured in a motor vehicle UAT 416K a Tundra.

His identities are yet to be known,”Kayima said.

West Nile police spokesperson Josephine Angucia said they are investigating a possibility that Bobi Wine’s driver could have been hit by a stray bullet.

However, according to police, the same group of supporters had earlier tried to block the president’s convoy at around 4pm as he tried to access Tiperu’s rally but were not successful.

“As the president went to the rally, a grader wrapped in colors as those attacking the president and smashed the cars had tried to intercept his convoy and their motive was clear.”

Kayima said the grader has been seized and taken to police to help in investigations.

According to reports from Arua legislators, Bobi Wine, Francis Zaake Butebi(Mityana Municipality) and other supporters had been arrested.

Former legislator Alice Alaso informed  whisper eye media team that she had earlier talked to Bobi Wine who said he had been surrounded by army men at his hotel.

She also confirmed that legislators; Francis Zaake and Gerald Karuhanga had been arrested.

The police spokesperson Emilian Kayima confirmed they had arrested some people but did not divulge more details of the identities of those arrested.

“The scene of crime has been secured.

A number of suspects have been arrested to assist in investigations,”Kayima noted.

“We condemn these violent actions that don’t show who we are politically.”
