Uganda Police tribunal dissolves itself before its sacked

The police court members have disqualified themselves from a matter in which former Buyende DPC Muhammad Kirumira is accused of protesting before court.

On February 18,Kirumira protested against what he termed as unfair bail conditions after the police court asked him to present a senior police officer above his rank to stand surety for him.

He was later accused of scandalous conduct for assaulting the court orderly and threatening the court chairman Denis Odongpiny.

Kirumira would later complain that Odongpiny could no longer remain as the chairperson to the court because he would at one time be a witness in the same matter.

On Tuesday,Steven Ojara, the prosecutor in the matter told court that the police legal team had advised that all court members dismiss themselves from the case.

Subsequently, the court chairman Odongpiny stayed the proceedings until a new panel of members is appointed to hear the case.

“We are now dismissing ourselves from the case because we might be witnesses in the matter.

New members of the court will be appointed to handle the case,”Ondongpiny  told whisper eye media team in Kampala.

He said the case is now halted until a new panel of court members is appointed. This comes barely a few days after the President made drastic changes in the police force which saw Lt Gen Kayihura sacked and replaced by his deputy Okoth Ochola and Brigadier Muzeei of Military Police.

Kirumira recently accused the police force of witch-hunting him through multiple offenses before he resigned from the force.

He would later be arrested and detained at Nalufenya detention center in Jinja district
